Do's
- Use your Bank of Baroda Debit Card for personal use only.
- Generate Debit Card/Green PIN through BOB World App, bob World Internet, IVR, or any nearest Bank of Baroda ATM (applicable for domestic registered mobile numbers). No physical PIN will be sent.
- Ensure to change your PIN at regular intervals.
- Activate your debit card by using it first at any ATM. The card can be used at POS/e-commerce only after activation at an ATM.
- Always ensure your card is used in your presence when transacting at POS and enter the PIN discreetly.
- Register your mobile number with the bank and subscribe for SMS alerts for all Debit Card transactions to avoid suspicious/fraudulent activities.
- Conduct any ATM transaction in complete privacy.
- Beware of "Shoulder Surfing" and shield your PIN from onlookers by covering the keypad.
- Ensure to collect your card, cash, and receipt after completing a transaction.
- Look for extra devices attached to ATMs and inform security guard/bank immediately if any are found.
- After completing your transaction and before leaving the premises, ensure the "Welcome Screen" is displayed in the ATM.
- Regularly check account statements and immediately report any unauthorized card transactions to your bank after blocking your debit card.
- Immediately inform the Bank if your ATM/Debit Card is lost or stolen. If your card is held back by an ATM, inform the 24-hour Customer Care.
- Keep an eye on suspicious movements of people around ATMs and beware of strangers trying to engage you in conversation.
- When destroying your card upon expiry or account closure, cut it into four pieces through the magnetic stripe before disposing of it.
- Verify emails and links that appear to be from your social networking site, as these could be phishing emails.
- Always ensure that the address of the website for transactions starts with https://.
Don'ts
- Don't give your Debit Card to anyone. If you need to surrender the card, request closure and hand it over to Bank Officials after destruction. You can also block a card using BOB World (Mobile Banking), bob World Internet (Internet Banking), IVR, or WhatsApp Banking.
- Don't keep a written record of the PIN in any form, place, or manner that may facilitate its misuse. Memorizing your PIN is advised.
- Don't disclose your Card/PIN details over email links/phone calls/to bank officials, even if they claim to be from Bank of Baroda. The Bank will never request such details.
- Don't overlook or ignore transaction alerts received through SMS.
- Never lend your card to anyone.
- Do not write your PIN on the card or on the cover of the card.
- Never share your PIN with anyone or seek help from anybody by handing over the card and revealing the PIN.
- Never let anyone see you entering your PIN.
- Never use a PIN that could be easily guessed (e.g., your birthday or telephone number). Use of non-dictionary words is advised.
- Never leave your card in the ATM.
- Do not forget to collect dispensed cash as the ATM does not take it back.
- Avoid posting personal information such as your address, phone numbers, email address, license number, Aadhaar number, birth place, location for any given day, school’s name of kids, and family details online.
How to Apply for a Debit Card
- In person at your local branch.
- Online through the bob World App.
- Online through the bob World Internet.
- By calling the contact centre.
How to Use/Activate a Debit Card
- After receiving a debit card, the customer must create a green PIN using a BOB ATM, bob World App, bob World Internet, or by calling IVR.
- A physical PIN will be given to NRI customers along with new cards at their base branch. NRI clients can make an ATM withdrawal transaction to activate the debit card.
- The card must be used first at any ATM to activate it. After activation, it can be used at POS/e-commerce.
Debit Card Blocking (Wrong PIN Attempts)
- Soft blocking: After 3 attempts of a wrong PIN in a day (within 24 hours), the debit card will be blocked for the next 24 hours.
- Hard Blocking: After 12 attempts of a wrong PIN in a month, the debit card will be blocked permanently.
Hotlisting a Debit Card
Customers can hotlist (block) their debit card through the following modes:
- Contact Centre/Toll-Free Numbers (1800 5700 / 1800 5000):
- Press 2 to Continue.
- Press 1 for Lost Card Option.
- Press 1 to Continue for Blocking the Debit Card.
- Press 1 to Block the Debit Card.
- Enter 14-digit Account number.
- Enter last 4-digits of the Debit card.
- Press 1 to confirm the Blocking of Debit Card.
- An SMS of the blocked Debit card will be sent to your registered mobile number.
- Mobile Banking (bob World App):
- Login to Baroda bob World.
- Click on "Cards" on the bottom of the home page.
- Select "Debit Card Hot listing".
- All Debit Cards (in OPEN status) linked with the customer ID will be displayed with a BLOCK CARD button.
- Click Block Card for the debit card to be blocked.
- Enter transaction PIN and click Okay.
- Card will be blocked instantly, with a success confirmation POP up and text message.
- To unblock, a request must be made at the branch.
- WhatsApp Banking (8433 888 777):
- Say "Hi" to Bank of Baroda’s WhatsApp Banking Number.
- Select Block Debit Card option.
- Select card number for blocking.
- Click confirm to block card.
- Card blocked successfully, and SMS triggered.
- Net Banking (bob World Internet):
- Login to bob World Internet.
- Click on "Services" tab.
- Select "Service Requests" -> "New Requests".
- Click on "Operative Accounts".
- Select "Block Debit Card".
- Select the debit card to be blocked and click continue.
- Select reason for Blocking, enter remarks, and transaction password.
- Click "Submit".
- Card will be blocked instantly, with on-screen confirmation.
- To unblock, a request must be made at the branch.
- Nearest Bank of Baroda Branch: Request for blocking can be submitted by visiting any nearest Bank of Baroda Branch.
Enabling Debit Card Transaction Channels or Setting Limits
- At the time of issue/re-issue/renewal, all debit cards are enabled only for use at contact-based points of usage (ATMs and Point of Sale devices) within India.
- To enable other transaction channels (online, international, contactless) and set transaction limits, log in to bob World (Mobile Banking) or bob World Internet (Internet Banking), visit a BOB ATM, or call IVR 1800 5700.
- Kindly use your card for the first transaction on an ATM or for Green PIN generation through bob World (Mobile Banking) or bob World Internet (Internet Banking) or visit a BOB ATM or call IVR 1800 5700, and then try online transactions.
- International usage/contactless facility can only be enabled for International/Contactless Debit Card variants.
Linking Multiple Accounts
- A maximum of 9 accounts held in the same name and same capacity can be linked to a Debit Card.
- Submit a request for linking multiple accounts on your Debit Card to your base branch.
Debit Card Non-Renewal Consent
- If you prefer not to renew your Bank of Baroda Debit Card, block the card via Branch/IVR (1800 5700)/bob World app/bob World Internet latest by one month prior to your Card Renewal Month.
- Blocking the debit card from any channel will be considered as consent for non-renewal.
- Not blocking the debit card will be taken as consent for card renewal.
- Bank sends SMS notifications regarding these guidelines 35-40 days before the card expiry date; ensure your mobile number is correctly registered.
General Debit Card Information
- A debit card is a multipurpose card used for ATM, POS, online, and contactless transactions. An ATM card can only be used for ATM transactions.
- Bank of Baroda Debit cards are accepted at ATMs that are part of networks such as RuPay, Visa, and Master Card.
- Customers must frequently use the debit card to avoid it being blocked.
- A Debit Card cannot be used without a PIN, except for contactless transactions up to Rs. 5,000 as per RBI guidelines, which can be managed via BOB ATM/bob World App/bob World Internet/IVR.
